Uncover and identify our resident bats, and other night creatures with an expert guide.
Lucy Houliston is a zoologist, National Geographic Explorer, creative conservationist, and weird wildlife enthusiast. She uses media and storytelling to connect diverse audiences with nature and inspire action for conservation.
Lucy will be taking us around the castle to introduce us to the swooping bats using bat detectors, identifying the types we have whilst exploding the myths of these amazing creatures that are now synonymous with Halloween.
Lucy will talk us through all the nighttime castle residents and answer any questions you may have!
Vanessa Farinha, events programmer for Hastings Castle, will invite all visitors to gather for a moment of quiet to listen out for the creatures and, if time allows, will read a story or poem inspired by the creatures of the night.
Hot Drinks and Creature Identification Booklets will be available to purchase on the night.
∆ Tickets
Single entry - £12
Family group (Groups of 3 or 4 with at least one child) - £25
∆ What to Bring
- Torches to get around the site
- Warm weather clothing
- Footwear for the wild, wonky, wet ground
- Payment for hot drinks on site
∆ Please Note
Children are welcome but as we are not lighting the site for this event so, we ask that they stay beside their adult at all times and not wonder off alone in the dark as this can be dangerous.
The ground is uneven throughout and we will only be lighting certain areas so as not to scare the creatures away.
∆ Wet Weather Cancellations
If we have wet weather that night we will reschedule this event as the animals will be in hiding. All tickets will be refunded or resceduled. The decision to cancel will happen at the morning of the event and all ticket holders will be notified over email.
